Pranayama, which means Conscious Breathing
In the different traditions of Hindu spirituality, Pranayama encompasses multiple breathing techniques. In itself, Pranayama is the ability to control our breathing: at the same time as the absorption and control of Prana or vital energy, which is linked at the same breath.
Etymologically Prana means air, breath, life; and Ayama means control or discipline. So we can extract that the control of the breath enables us to take control and enjoy the vital energy fully. In addition, we will obtain multiple physical and mental benefits.
Pranayama Techniques there are many. The different practices that we can carry out feed our body and lead us to experiences of transcendence of the mind, which are very useful to reach altered states of Consciousness and get closer to “that >” which we really are.
Pranayama control makes it easier for us to come to control of the mind and body, and it is very useful in both senses. For example, in tantric techniques to enjoy a sacred sexuality, the control of Pranayama is fundamental. It is also highly recommended before or after any Yoga practice, as it makes it easier for us to transcend physical aspects and quiet the mind.
In our tradition and tantric lineage, Kashmir Shaivism, Bhastrika is the Pranayama technique that we recommend. In addition to raising our Kundalini energy through the main Sushumna channel, we perform opening and closing of Bandhas that allow us to purify our body and the different Chakras. It can be accompanied with the Mantra Soham, So on inhalation, Ham on exhalation.
In short, Pranayama is the ability to absorb vital energy and control breathing, to feed our body and keep our mind quiet.
