In the tantric vision, the human body represents a temple for the spirit: it is a true microcosm, an exact reflection of the entire universe.
The alma encarnada in a body (human), represents the highest expression of creation itself.
En consecuencia, este cuerpo físico que “usamos”, protege la forma oculta del alma (Atman) y, por lo tanto, el templo del espíritu, se ha convertido en un concepto tántrico tradicional.
Consequently, this physical body that we “wear”, protects the hidden form of the soul (Atman) and therefore the temple of the spirit, has become a traditional tantric concept.
They say that if something comes from a temple, it is sacred, on the condition that the temple is treated as such, with a permanent attitude of spiritual awareness on the part of the person who dwells in it.
The temple is by definition a place of worship, a building dedicated to the service of God. According to the tantric tradition, God represents our Supreme Self or higher consciousness (Atman), and that it must be worshiped through the “temple of the body”.
1.- The importance of the human body
Clean or dirty, good or bad, acceptable or unacceptable: these are all relative notions, filtered by our society, culture and way of seeing things; however, they can act as a brake on the spiritual evolution that tantra students seek.
Traditional Hinduism obsesses over what is pure or impure; in authentic tantric traditions that concept does not exist.
“Chandamaharosana Tantra ” expresses this aspect as clearly as possible:
The vast majority of Western cultures generally hold to the idea that perspiration, saliva, urine, sexual secretions, and menstrual blood are impure.
Tantric teachings say that when the body is nourished, healthy and clean, everything that is produced inside represents something sacred.
2.- The five nectars
Therefore, they sought to discover the properties of perspiration, tears, cut nails, hair, beards, eyelashes and eyebrows, etc.
They explored each part of the body and all the materials it produces, finding magical uses for each of these. They focused their research primarily on five bodily secretions, referred to in Tantric and Buddhist texts as “the five nectars.”
These are: saliva, urine, sexual secretions (sperm and vaginal secretions), menstrual blood and excretions. In tantric teachings, these are spiritual, sacred elements that are used in rites and ceremonies, since they help the evolution of the initiates.
These “five nectars” are often mentioned in Tantric and Buddhist traditions.
The tantrics argue that if we really consider our body a temple, and if we take proper care of our body, then all the resulting products will be endowed with divine qualities.
