Amavasya or Amavasha is a Sanskrit word that in Hinduism has a very special meaning. This term “Amavasya” refers to the phase of the new moon. It occurs once a month, and is considered a very auspicious night in which rituals and pujas are held. The waxing and waning of the moon is called hukla paksha and Krishna paksha.
